About Kishangarh

Bani ThaniKishangarh, a municipality as well as a city, lies 27kms north-east of Ajmer in Rajasthan. Founded by a Rathore Prince named Kishan Singh, the city is widely celebrated for its Kishangarh style paintings, specially the beauteous portrayal of a courtesan called ‘Bani Thani’. It rose to popularity during the 18th century for having one of the oldest and finest schools of miniatures paintings. Though, the school existed only for a very few decades. But today, the artists produce duplicates of the same work that was previously created in those art schools.

Off late, the city is acclaimed to be known as the ‘Marble city of India’. It has become a flourishing industrial centre for marbles and textiles. No other place in the world, except Kishangarh seems to have a temple of all nine planets.  Kishangarh’s connectivity with other parts of India is very well facilitated via Indian Railways and National Highway #8. It shares its boundaries on the North and Northwest by Jodhpur, on the west and southeast by Ajmer District, on the extreme south by Shahpura and on the east by Jaipur. Sabi river, one of the most important rivers of Jaipur, flows through the municipality of Kishangarh.

The fulcrum of the city’s economy is the world famous Marble Industry. Kishangarh economy depends mainly on the trading of Marble, that is, export oriented business practices. Kishangarh has now become Asia’s biggest Marble Market. The Marble Market in Kishangarh incorporates more than 25000 marble traders, 1000 gangsaws, 5000 edge cutting machines and around 25000 godowns. It also provides employment to around 1 lakh people.

More than 9000 Marble sellers including Marble Supplier, Marble Mines Owner, Granite Seller and Manufacture, Sand Stone Seller and Manufacture, Kota Stone Seller, Limestone seller are here in only 10kms of radius areas. The world famous R.K. Marbles is also situated in Kishangarh. His name has been recorded in the World Guinness Book of Record as the largest producer of marble. Kishangarh Marble Association is the biggest Marble Association of India.

Kishangarh also has a flourishing market for power-looms and ball mills sector. To boost the textile industry and upgrade the infrastructure, a textile park has been set up by the Central Government in Kishangarh.

According to the census of 2001, the population of Kishangarh figures to about 116, 156. 53% of the population consist of  males and 47% of the population consists of females. The average literacy rate of Kishangarh is 62% while the national average of 59.5%. Literacy rates for males and females are 80% and 64% respectively. Around 12% of the population in Kishangarh is below 6 years of age.
